Maryland’s Electricity Market
Becomes Competitive
Salisbury, MD - At long last, Maryland businesses
are benefiting from electricity deregulation. Price caps that had frozen rates for several years were lifted
for Allegheny, BG&E, DPL, and PEPCO customers. Affiliated Power Purchasers International
(APPI), ASAE’s sponsored energy consultant, allows your
business to take advantage of the competitive
electric market by identifying opportunities for association headquarters and member
businesses to reduce electricity costs.
To assist you in obtaining competitive
electricity rates, APPI has formed the Maryland Wholesale Electricity
Pool (MWEP). By aggregating, or pooling Maryland businesses from
APPI’s 140 member associations, APPI is able to negotiate
wholesale rates for its members. There is no obligation or fee to
participate. APPI prepares a savings analysis comparing each business’s
current electricity rate to the final rate negotiated by APPI. Members
will have several days to evaluate the offer and to make a decision
to opt into the pool.
