NFI Member Texas Pack Saves Over $180,000 on Electricity Through the APPI Savings Solutions Program
Ray McLaughlin, Sr., General Manager of Texas Pack, Inc., a NFI member located in San Isabel, TX, contacted APPI in November 2003 to investigate the Savings Solutions Program. Texas Pack already had an agreement in place with an electricity supplier which expired in June 2004. The supplier had decided not to pursue the renewal of the Texas Pack account.
APPI analyzed Texas Pack’s accounts, went to the market, and continually monitored the market for several months to identify suppliers that were eager to have Texas Pack as a customer. APPI Account Manager, Dan Hughes, visited Texas Pack in early March 2004 to discuss supplier options. Due to the volatility of the market, pricing did not meet APPI’s expectations, and APPI recommended that Texas Pack wait for several weeks in anticipation of better pricing. Another prominent supplier in Texas had contacted Texas Pack and was bidding for its business. APPI reviewed supplier contracts and assisted Mr. McLaughlin in understanding the complex terms and conditions and identified several important considerations.
Due to the APPI relationship with NFI and APPI’s commitment to Texas Pack, the company agreed that if an agreed-upon strike price was met by March 18th, Texas Pack would accept the new electricity supplier agreement recommended by APPI. For the next three weeks APPI worked closely with the supplier that best fit Texas Pack’s needs to secure the agreed upon strike price. On March 18th the price was met and Texas Pack signed the agreement. APPI was able to secure a three-year contract with price, terms, and conditions that met Texas Pack’s requirements while saving an additional $188,000 more than the previous contract.
Texas Pack’s experience illustrates how NFI members can benefit by working with APPI. In some cases, the best position is to wait for better pricing. In every case, NFI members can benefit by working with APPI, an independent consultant with considerable expertise in the nation’s ever-changing electricity markets.
